Projects and Content Covered in Udacity Business Analytics Nanodegree
I found that Udacity Business Analytics Nanodegree was a perfect mixture of projects & theory to analyze format, and clean data in the Excel program, and gain experience working with the Tableau App.
In Udacity Business Analytics Nanodegree, there were 4 courses and 3 projects. And each course had some lessons and quizzes.
These were the 4 courses-
- Welcome to the Program
- Introduction to Data
- SQL for Data Analysis
- Data Visualization
Now, let’s see what did I learn in Udacity Business Analytics Nanodegree–
Course 1- Welcome to the Program
This course was just an introductory course to meet the instructors of the Nanodegree program. No concepts were taught in this course. We just met with the instructors and they told us about the course structure, projects covered, etc.
But this course had one project named “Interpret a Data Visualization“.
I would not say this is a project because there was nothing too complex to do in this task. Only I had to find out the insights from interactive dashboards and explain each insight in a short report.
Course 2- Introduction to Data
This course gave more focus on Descriptive Statistics, Spreadsheets, and Excel Modelling.
For me, this was a little tough course, because my background is not related to math and statistics. That’s why I took more time to complete this course.
But I learned various new concepts throughout this course such as the use of Spreadsheets to manipulate, analyze, and visualize the data, and different types of Data Visualization charts.
This course also covered some aspects of business metrics that are used by business analysts in the field of marketing, sales, growth, engagement, and financial analysis.
I had some previous knowledge of Excel Modelling. I learned in my bachelor’s degree. But this course helped me to brush up on my concepts.
After learning these concepts, there was one project, which I had to complete.
According to Udacity, this was the second project, but I think this was my first project in this Nanodegree Program.

Project 1- Analyze NYSE Data
For this project, Udacity provided a New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) dataset. This dataset had fundamental financial data for 500 companies.
This project was based on statistical calculations. And that’s why, for me, this project was hard to finish.
To complete this project, I had to take the help of other resources and google. Thank god that the dataset they provided was clean. I also had to create a presentation and spreadsheet to be reviewed.
In this project, there were three tasks that I had to perform-
- Create our own data analysis and make a presentation to share our findings,
- Make a dashboard for a Profit and Loss Statement, and
- Build a Financial Forecasting Model using three scenarios.
When I completed this project, the reviewer reviewed my project and gave me feedback. The feedback and the peer community helped me throughout the program to clear my doubts.
After submitting this project, I moved forward with the next course.
Course 3- SQL for Data Analysis
For me, this was the easiest and most fun course.
I had previous knowledge in SQL, that’s why I just watched some concepts to brush up. As you can see in the above screenshot, I didn’t see the whole course because I knew most of the topics.
This course covered how to clean data using SQL and Advanced SQL.
After learning these concepts, I had to work on one project.
Project 2- Query a Digital Music Store Database
This project was not that tough for me as compared to the previous project. In this project, Udacity provided us with a digital music store database. In this database, there was information regarding the store’s media, employees, and customers.
Whenever I was stuck I asked my mentor. And he cleared all my doubts.
This was the dataset provided by Udacity. This project helped me to learn some advanced concepts of SQL.

Course 4- Data Visualization
This course was all about Data Visualization and its fundamentals.
This course taught me Tableau and how to use Tableau to create visualizations. Storytelling is an essential skill for business analysts and this course covered how to tell impactful stories using data.
At the end of this course, there was a final Capstone Project.
Project 3- Build Data Dashboards
This was the last project and for this project, Udacity provided a dataset of flight delays in the US to visualize the quality of airlines and airports.
This was not an easy project. It required a lot of google searches. But this project helped me to understand Data Visualization in detail.
So, this is all about Udacity Business Analytics Nanodegree Courses and Projects.

Udacity
But Udacity offers two options- One is either pay the complete amount upfront or you can pay monthly installments of $300/month.
Based on my experience, I would say at this price, Udacity Business Analytics Nanodegree Program is not worth it.
Because, you can learn these topics from other sources such as YouTube, Udemy, Coursera, etc.

Right…?
That means, daily, I need to spend approx 1.5 hours, but I doubled the time and gave daily 3 hours. By doing this method I completed the whole Nanodegree program in 1.5 months.
I used the Pomodoro technique to manage my time and avoid any distractions and increase my learning.
And I also implemented the project phases after watching the related lecture. By doing this way, I saved my time by watching one video two times. One at the time of learning and the second at the time of working on the project.
